1 GW power transmission line completes federal approval process (US)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved the 1 GW Champlain Hudson Power Express project developed by Transmission Developers Inc. (TDI); the project has now secured all of the federal and state sitting permits necessary to proceed with construction.

The Champlain Hudson Power Express Project is an underground 536-km HVDC transmission line stretching from New York City to Lake Champlain at the U.S.-Canada border through the state of New York. The transmission line will have a capacity of 1,000 MW and will require an investment of US$2.2bn. Commissioning was expected by the fall of 2017 but construction will take 3.5 years (commercial operations as of late 2018 at the earliest).
