Overview
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) consumption and production are gaining momentum on world energy markets. Liquefaction makes possible dramatic reductions in transportation costs and offers new opportunities to value gas reserves in producing countries (Australia, Qatar or Nigeria). LNG is also a strategic alternative to long-term gas supply through pipelines for consuming countries. In a global context of rising energy demand from emerging countries such as China or India but also from traditional LNG importers such as post-Fukushima Japan, LNG is increasingly seen as a major commodity on world energy markets.
