February was a particularly active month for Enerdata in Southeast Asia, with several key milestones achieved across of our ongoing projects.
In early February, our hydrogen expert, Ahmed Abbas, delivered a three-day training session in Jakarta. Attended by approximately thirty Indonesian policymakers and business leaders, the session was built in response to Indonesia’s commitment to integrating green hydrogen into its energy transition and industrial decarbonisation strategy. Conducted in collaboration with our local partner, Petroraya, the training was part of a broader programme aimed at strengthening expertise in green hydrogen. It was tailored for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral), state-owned energy companies such as PT PLN and PT Pertamina, and the research ecosystem. Drawing on project examples from Asia and across the world, the training addressed the technical, political, economic, and environmental dimensions of hydrogen as an energy vector.

Also in Indonesia, at the end of February, our Statistics and EIS teams presented the main findings of an assessment of the ASEAN Centre for Energy’s regional information system, the AEDS (ASEAN Energy Database System). Funded by the World Bank, this project aims to consolidate a data framework essential for the regional energy transition. Some twenty recommendations were put forward to streamline data collection processes (in collaboration with ASEAN Member States), strengthen the security of the IT platform, and integrate new indicators for renewable energies and a just energy transition. This project reflects Enerdata’s commitment in Southeast Asia to consolidating and integrating national energy information systems on a regional scale, thereby enabling the production of harmonised and consistent statistics.

Finally, Florent Gauthier, Project Manager in Enerdata’s Modelling team, hosted a webinar at the end of February for the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Organised at the request of the Energy Sector Office (SG-ENE), the objective was to present the tools developed by Enerdata over the past 30 years, which are used to guide public policy and investment in energy efficiency. He presented recent trend analyses and long-term scenario modelling, highlighting their crucial role in shaping public action. The presentation was followed by a discussion session, notably regarding the key role of energy system modelling for major regional projects such as the ASEAN Power Grid.
