Assessment of Mexico’s Energy Information System

As part of the technical assistance provided by the French Development Agency (AFD) to the Mexican Ministry of Energy (SENER), Enerdata has conducted a study to assess the progress and challenges resulting from Mexico’s energy statistics reform. This project follows the "Just Energy Transition" (TEJ) policy reforms passed by the Mexican Parliament in the spring of 2025.

The diagnostic focused on energy statistics governance and the resources allocated to the new National Energy Information System (SNIE). To establish this comprehensive overview, we carried out interviews with key public and private stakeholders in the sector, including the National Institute of Statistics (INEGI), the Energy Regulatory Commission (CNE), the national agencies for energy efficiency (CONUEE) and renewable energy (INEEL), as well as the Ministry of Environment (SEMARNAT).

The final report, delivered to the AFD and the Mexican Ministry of Energy, evaluates the administration's progresses in energy information accessibility and transparency. It also examines the implementation of the energy information system and the quality of energy data, alongside statistical and environmental methodologies.
