Creating an energy data interface for Eurelectric

Eurelectric, the federation of the European electricity industry, aims at making its members and the public aware of the power market landscape. To do so, it releases annually the Power Barometer, a platform consisting of webinars, analysis, and data. The latest addition to this platform is ELDA, a publicly available web app, providing daily European power market data, such as capacity, generation, demand, prices, and CO2 emissions.  Enerdata, with its in-house teams of energy analysts and web developers, was selected to develop ELDA’s front-end.

Eurelectic came to Enerdata with a set of specific goals. They wanted to become EU’s knowledge hub and a key player in power data and intelligence. To achieve this, they intended to boost their credibility and advocacy by providing transparent data. Their main challenge was understanding how to communicate it efficiently to the public and its members. Thus, they arrived to Enerdata with an objective to increase the traffic to their website, create quick access to power sector up-to-date data for their colleagues and members, build clear dashboards with data visualisation, and create an EU Power business intelligence platform.

With the provided by Eurelectic database and graphic charts, Enerdata was capable to use its expertise in website development, in particular energy data display and graphic representation type interfaces (e.g. Yearbook) and provide multiple deliverables. Our team has created website mockups and developed the dedicated web interface for ELDA. We have also included our data analysts to check the consistency of graphics with the data. The end deliverable was the ELDA interface that later was hosted on the Eurelectric server. You can now find the web interface by following this link: https://electricity-data.eurelectric.org/ .

The application features an interactive user interface that grants optimal access to data, with a wide choice of attributes selected using a dynamic form. The data are displayed through charts and table, with an option of comparing it date-to-date. The statistics can be viewed with a yearly, monthly, daily and even hourly period of time, and can be exported in Excel.
