Russia officially launches construction of gas pipeline to China

Gazprom has officially launched the construction of the Power of Siberia gas transmission pipeline to China by welding the first joint of the pipe. The pipeline will convey gas from the Yakutia and Irkutsk gas production centers in Russia to the Far East and China. The first 2,200 km section of the 4,000 km-long pipeline is expected to be commissioned in late 2018 between the Chayandinskoye field in Yakutia to Blagoveshchensk on the Russian-Chinese border. It will enable to deliver gas to China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) under a 30-year gas supply contract signed by Gazprom in May 2014 on the annual supply of 38 bcm.
