Master Plan for Vietnam Gas Industry Development to 2025 approved

The Prime Ministry of Vietnam has approved the Master Plan for Vietnam Gas Industry Development to 2025, with an outlook up to 2035.

The Master Plan aims to develop the Vietnamese gas industry, to collect 100% of the gas production from the fields operated by national company PetroVietnam and by foreign contractors, to achieve a domestic gas production of 17 to 21 bcm/year in 2026-2035. Vietnam bets on gas-fired power plants, which should consume 70% to 80% of total gas supply (LNG imports and domestic production), and plans to develop a gas-based petrochemical sector. The country aims to develop the gas distribution system for industrial, transports and city household customers. The Master Plan targets a gas market of 23 to 31 bcm in the 2026-2035 period.

Vietnam aims to strengthen gas collection from dispersed small gas fields and to develop LNG import infrastructures in the north and south-west of the country. In the center, the focus will be on the development of the Blue Whale field and related projects (petrochemicals and CNG). Gas exploration will also be strengthened in the southeast region.
