Eni wins three oilfields in Mexico's second oil auction

Italian energy group Eni has been awarded a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for the development of a block including three offshore oilfields, in the second oil auction in Mexico. The company has won with a 100% share rights to appraise, develop and exploit the oil fields of Amoca, Miztón e Tecoalli, located in the Campeche Bay (offshore Mexico). The fields, discovered by national oil company Pemex, are located in "Area 1" shallow water close to shore; their combined oil volumes in place are estimated at 800 mbl of oil and 480 bcf (13.5 bcm) of associated gas.

The oil auction, the second phase of the "Ronda 1", attracted more interested companies than in the first oil auction (July 2015), when only two of 14 contracts on offer were awarded. In this new auction, a consortium of Fieldwood Energy (US) and Petrobal (Mexico) won the Area 4 (Ichakil and Pokoch fields, cumulating 693 mbl of oil and 23 bcm of gas), while panAmerican Energy won the Area 2 (Hokchi fields with oil reserves of 419 mbl and gas reserves of 5.6 bcm). Two offered Areas, Area 3 (Xulum field) and Area 5 (Mison and Nak fields), found no takers.

Two additional Round One tenders are expected in coming months, including an onshore auction in December 2015 followed by deep water fields auction in 2016.
