Enel sells its 66% stake in Slovak power utility to Czech EPH

Italian energy group Enel and the Slovak Ministry of the Economy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Czech energy company Energetický a prumyslový holding (EPH) for the sale of Enel's 66% interest in Slovakia's main power utility Slovenske Elektrarne (SE).

Under the terms of the MoU, Enel will transfer its 66% stake to a newly established company HoldCo and will eventually sell to EPH its entire interest in HoldCo. In addition, the Slovak government could raise its interest in Slovenske Elektrarne (currently 34%), once units 3 and 4 of the Mochovce nuclear power plant are complete.

Enel had announced the sale of its power generation assets in Slovakia in July 2014. At the end of 2014, Slovenske Elektrarne, the largest power generation company in Slovakia, had an installed capacity of about 4,521 MW, of which about 1,940 MW from nuclear power generation. The company is currently involved in the construction of the new units 3 and 4 at Mochovce nuclear power plant, which have a total capacity of 942 MW.
