The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) and two Chinese companies, Hydro-China Corporation and CGCOC, signed an agreement to construct a 153 MW Adama II wind farm at a cost of US$345m. Adama II wind farm is located in between Adama and Modjo towns in Oromia Region. The project will consist of 102 wind turbines each with an output of 1.5 MW, the construction of which is estimated to be completed within 18 months. It is the second phase of 51 MW Adama I wind farm which came online in June 2012, utilising 34 units of Goldwind wind turbines.
A 120 MW wind farm should also be completed by mid-2013 in Ashegoda. The project consists of 30 turbines with an output of 1 MW, 54 turbines of 1.67 MW and a sub-station to connect the wind farm to the grid. The substation is already completed. The project will cost about US$250m and is financed the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French financial institution BNP Paribas. Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCO) awarded
an Engineering Procurement Commissioning (EPC) contract to Vergnet to build the farm.
