Swedish and Norwegian power grid operators will invest in balancing

25 Jun 2019

The Swedish power transmission network operator Svenska Kraftnät and its Norwegian counterpart Statnett have agreed to jointly invest SEK 1bn (€94m) in a new Nordic balancing model. The system will help balance power supply and demand in the Nordic region (also including Denmark and Finland) and will facilitate the integration of renewable power generation in the power networks.

In 2018, the Nordic system operators agreed to joinly develop a Nordic balancing model (NBM) within the framework of a joint development program. The NBM includes IT development, transition to a 15-minute settlement period and transition to a balancing model based on the modernized "Area Control Error" (mACE).
