SSE moves ahead to develop the 2 GW Alpha offshore wind project (Netherlands)

The Noordzeker consortium, comprising the UK’s SSE (50%) and the Dutch pension provider APG (50%), has confirmed its intention to develop the 2 GW Alpha offshore wind project, located in the IJmuiden Ver Wind Farm Zone off the Netherlands.

In June 2024, the Dutch Government had awarded the Noordzeker consortium the rights to a pre-developed and fully consented offshore wind site in the Dutch North Sea. Subject to reaching a final investment decision (FID), which is expected by late 2025, the wind project would be commissioned by 2030.

The Netherlands targets to tender 21 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, 50 GW by 2040 and 70 GW by 2050. As of end-2023, approximately 4 GW of offshore wind energy had been fully commissioned.
