RWE's 1.6 GW Södra Midsjöbanken offshore wind project in Sweden moves ahead
RWE Renewables has completed environmental and geophysical surveys for its 1,600 MW Södra Midsjöbanken offshore wind project in the Swedish part of the Baltic Sea. The project would include 100 to 120 wind turbines rated between 15 MW and 20 MW each, spreading across 200 km2. The group is preparing the application for a Natura 2000 permit and expects to secure the necessary permits in 2024-2025. Construction could last 2 to 3 years and the project could be commissioned around 2029. Once operational, the project should generate up to 8 TWh/year of electricity.
