IER plans a 2.7 GW offshore wind project in Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil)
The Brazilian company Internacional Energias Renováveis (IER) has signed an agreement with the state of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil) to build a 2.7 GW offshore wind complex off the cities of Pedra Grande and São Bento do Norte, 8 kilometres away from the coast. The BRL18bn (US$3.4bn) Ventos Potiguar project, which would consist of five wind park and would comprise 207 wind turbines, is expected to be linked with hydrogen production. Brazil has currently no offshore wind capacity.
