Offshore wind developer Corio Generation and Brazilian construction company Estaleiros do Brasil (EBR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore how EBR’s existing infrastructure could support the deployment of two wind projects planned in the south of the country with a combined total capacity of 2.4 GW. EBR’s shipyard facilities are located in Brazil’s southern province of Rio Grande do Sul covering an area of about 170 ha, and the MoU explores the possibility to reserve an area to support the development of the wind projects Cassino Offshore Wind (1.2 GW) and Rio Grande Offshore Wind (1.2 GW).
Corio aims to develop five offshore wind projects in Brazil, totalling up to 6 GW, of which four projects (4.8 GW) are located off the southern and southeastern coastlines of the country. EBR aims to use its expertise in the construction of floating platforms for the oil and gas industry to build offshore wind projects.
