Denmark sets up ambitious offshore wind targets by 2030

The Danish Parliament has approved plans to build three new offshore wind park projects with a total combined capacity of 2,400 MW by 2030 and to reduce the number of onshore wind turbines, from around 4,300 to 1,850 by 2030. Denmark expects renewable energies to make up 55% of the domestic energy supply by 2030 (+5% from the previous set target).

The first offshore wind site will be awarded in 2019-2020 and is forecast to come online between 2024 and 2027. The two remaining areas will be tendered in 2021 and 2023, respectively. Transmission costs could be included in the tender cost, which would represent a significant change compared with the previous Danish offshore wind bid rounds.

The government is also mulling holding technology-neutral tenders and an allocation of DKK4.2bn (€560m) will be set aside to support the mixed solar-wind auctions between 2020 and 2024. Besides, DKK4bn (€540m) will be dedicated to support biogas projects.
