China launches a 100 GW wind and solar project

China has started building a hybrid solar and wind project in the desert with a view to installing 100 GW of wind and solar power in the first phase. The renewable power project, whose location was undisclosed, could be situated in western China.

China aims to reach more than 1,200 GW of installed wind and solar capacity by 2030. As of end-2020, China had nearly 282 GW of installed solar capacity, and over 253 GW of wind capacity.
