Argentina restores power after massive blackout

18 Jun 2019

Power supply has been mostly restored in Argentina, after a massive blackout on Sunday 16 June 2019, that left the entire country without power, along with some regions of neighbouring Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. The blackout was reportedly due to a failure in the power transmission system at the Yacyreta dam, on the Parana River near Paraguay, that forced an automatic shutdown and disrupted the electrical interconnection system between Argentina and Uruguay.
