Vattenfall will develop two 1.8 GW offshore wind projects in the UK

Swedish power group Vattendall has started the planning process for two offshore wind projects of 1,800 MW each in the eastern North Sea, off the Norfolk coast in England, namely Norfolk Vanguard, which will start in 2016, and Norfolk Boreas, which will start in 2017.

Vattenfall and ScottishPower Renewables have been collaborating since 2010 with developing wind power in East Anglia Development Zone. In August 2015, the two companies decided to independently take forward projects within the East Anglia Zone, which was approved by the Crown Estate in early March 2015. Vattenfall will take forward the two projects, Norfolk Vanguard and Norfolk Boreas, in the northern part of the previous East Anglia zone area.

Norfolk Vanguard will contribute to Vattenfall's target to triple its wind power capacity to 7 GW across Northern Europe by 2025. The permit application for Norfolk Vanguard will be submitted in summer 2018 but the precise number and size of the turbines can not be determined before 2020.
