Total starts oil production from Dalia Phase 1A in Angola

French energy group Total has started oil production from the Dalia Phase 1A project on its deep offshore operated Block 17, off the coast of Angola. Dalia Phase 1A is expected to develop additional reserves of 51 mbl and to contribute 30,000 bbl/d to the block’s production, raising it to around 200,000 bbl/d.

Total has been active in Angola since 1953 and is one of the leading oil operators in the country, with an operated production of more than 700,000 boe/d. The group operates Block 17 with a 40% interest, in partnership with Statoil (23.33%), Esso Exploration Angola Block 17 (20%) and BP Exploration Angola (16.67%). Sonangol is the concessionaire of the license. Since the start of Block 17, the field has produced 2 Gbl.

Total also operates the ultra deep offshore Kaombo development located on Block 32, with a 30% stake. A final investment decision was made in April 2014 to develop Kaombo’s estimated reserves of 650 mbl via two converted FPSOs with a total production capacity of 230,000 bbl/d.
