Saudi Aramco signs deals for US$13bn Fadhili gas project (S. Arabia)

Saudi Arabia's national oil and gas company Saudi Aramco has signed four engineering contracts for the development of its US$13.3bn (SR50bn) Fadhili gas processing project.

The Fadhili gas processing plant is expected to be commissioned in 2019. It will be able to process gas from onshore and offshore fields. It should process a total of 2.5 bcf/d (71 mcm/d, or 26 bcm/year) of non-associated gas (80% from the Hasbah offshore gas field and 20% from the Khursaniyah onshore gas field). Along with Saudi Aramco’ Wasit and Midya major gas projects, Fadhili should add more than 5 bcf/d (141 mcm/d or 51.5 bcm/year), raising domestic gas production to more than 17 bcf/d (480 mcm/d or 175 bcm/year) by 2020.

In 2015, Saudi Arabia produced nearly 90 bcm of gas. Additional gas supplies will support the development of Saudi steel, aluminium and downstream industries, a key for industrial diversification.

The Fadhili gas processing plant will include a 1,500 MW power plant, including 400 MW for powering the gas project and 1,100 MW to be injected on the national grid.
