Pakistan GasPort orders FSRU for LNG import project in Pakistan

Pakistan GasPort Ltd (PGPL) has signed a 15-year agreement with the BW Group for LNG regasification services utilizing a new-build Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) for the second Pakistan LNG terminal. The FSRU will have a regasification capacity of 600 mcf/d (17 mcm/d, i.e. 6.2 bcm/year, peak of 750 mcf/d i.e. 21 mcm/d or 7.7 bcm/year) and will be able to store at least 170,000 m3 of gas.

PGPL and Fotco emerged as the lowest bidder for the development of the second Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in the Port Qasim terminal in Karachi. In January 2016, the government of Pakistan launched a tender for a second LNG import terminal and related infrastructures, in an attempt to ease gas shortages before a 2018 general election. The US$135m project is expected to be completed in 11 months (by 30 June 2017).

The first LNG import terminal was also built in Karachi by Elengy Terminal Pakistan Ltd (EPTL, wholly owned by Engro Corp) and commissioned in April 2015.
