Inter RAO's power generation dipped by 3.3% in 2015 in Russia

Russian energy group Inter RAO generated 127 TWh in Russia in 2015, 3.3% less than in 2014, due to longer repairs in the summer 2015 compared to the summer 2014. The capacity of the group remained broadly stable (-70 MW) at 29 GW in 2015; 362 MW of low-efficiency power capacity were retired, while a 225 MW unit was commissioned at the Cherepetskaya thermal power plant and the capacity of the Omskaya-5 thermal power plant was upgraded by 100 MW. Its international power capacity remained stable and the group's power generation dipped by 5.8% to 13.6 TWh, due to a lower market demand in Kazakhstan, despite higher power generation in Turkey, in Moldova and in Georgia. In Armenia, Inter RAO distributed 8.6 TWh of electricity (+2%) and succeeded in cutting electricity losses from 11% to 9.9%. In Russia, the group's consumer base rose by 2% to 12.7 million. The group sold nearly 166 TWh of electricity (+0.6%), accounting for 16% of the retail market.

In 2015, Inter RAO's electricity imports fell by 58% to 1.5 TWh, due to a 68% fall in imports from Kazakhstan (to 990 GWh), due to currency depreciation and prevailing market conditions. Electricity exports surged (+25%) to 17.5 TWh, due to appreciation of euro against Russian currency, resulting in higher profitability of sales to Finland (+13% to 3.4 TWh). A new agreement signed with Belarus enabled to double electricity exports to this country (2.8 TWh in 2015).
