GDF SUEZ announces restructuring to support its growth strategy

French energy group GDF SUEZ has decided to accelerate the implementation of its growth strategy unveiled two years ago and based on two main pilllars, namely becoming the benchmark energy player in fast growing markets and becoming the leader in the energy transition in Europe. The group will restructure its activities, creating 24 decentralised operational Business Units based on geographical locations or special activities. Ten geographical BUs will be created: North America; Latin America; Brazil; Africa; China; Asia-Pacific; Southern Asia/Middle East; Benelux; Northern, Central and Southern Europe; and the United Kingdom. In France, eight BUs will be created: four related to gas infrastructures (transport, distribution, terminals, and storage) and four related to BtoB, BtoC, networks, and renewables. The existing Thermal Generation Europe BU (electricity production from thermal power plants) will continue to exist. Finally, other activities will be carried out by five global steering entities, namely E&P, LNG, EMT, Tractebel Engineering and GTT. In addition to this geographical approach, five strong business lines could be implemented to implement GDF SUEZ's strategy in their spheres of influence : gas chain; centralised production of renewable and thermal electricity; decentralised solutions for cities and regions; solutions for businesses; and solutions for residentials and professionals. Those functional lines would be directed by a "NewCorp", a single corporate body created through the merger of the Branch Corporate with the Group Corporate.
