Engie acquires Solairedirect and becomes leader in French solar market

Engie (Ex GDF SUEZ) has acquired a 95% stake in solar developer Solairedirect, strengthening its positions in the French solar sector. Created in 2006, Solairedirect developed 57 solar parks worldwide with a combined capacity of 486 MW. In France, the group operates a gross capacity of 224 MW and aims to develop 125 per year. Engie operates 22 ground-based solar parks with a combined capacity of 158 MW. The acquisition of Solairedirect will raise its installed solar capacity to nearly 383 MW, about 7% of the solar PV capacity installed in France.

In addition, Engie will benefit from Solairedirect's international presence; the company is active in South Africa, India, Chile, the United States, Mexico and Thailand and has a portfolio of projects at the pre-construction phase amounting to more than 4.5 GW in the targeted regions, 434 MW of which are set to be built within the next 6 to 18 months.
