Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) awarded construction contract (USA)

Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP), a joint venture between Dominion (45%), Duke Energy (40%), Piedmont Natural Gas (10%) and Southern Company Gas (5%), has awarded a contract to Spring Ridge Constructors for the construction of the proposed 600-mile (965-km) natural gas pipeline from the State of Virginia to the State of North Carolina, United States.

The Atlantic Coast Pipeline project, which will have a transmission capacity of 1.5 bcf/day (15.5 bcm/year) for an estimated cost of US$4.5-5bn, would help meet Virginia and North Carolina gas demand by providing direct access to low-cost, abundant supplies of natural gas being produced in the nearby Marcellus and Utica shale basins of West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

The project is currently pending approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). ACP expects to receive a FERC certificate in the late summer or fall of 2017, with construction beginning shortly thereafter with full start of operation in late 2019.
