Argentina and Russia sign new energy framework agreements

Russia and Argentina have signed a series of framework agreements to strengthen their energy cooperation. State-owned gas companies Gazprom and YPF signed a MoU on cooperation. Gazprom is considering developing hydrocarbon deposits in Argentina. In addition, Rosatom's nuclear fuel manufacturing subsidiary TVEL has signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina (CNEA) and INVAP SE (state-owned construction company). The MoUs include deliveries of low-enriched uranium fuel and pave the way for the construction by Rosatom of a sixth nuclear reactor (Atucha). Inter RAO also signed an implementation protocol for the 637 MW Chihuido-1 hydro power plant in the Argentine province of Neuquén; the company will be part to the consortium developing the project, which will receive a loan from Russian State Corporation Vnesheconombank.

In 2013 Gazprom won an international tender for the supply of 15 LNG cargoes with a total volume of 1 Mt from its international portfolio to Argentina between 2014 and 2015.
