Highlights on Vattenfall
Vattenfall is Europe's fifth largest generator of electricity and the largest producer of heat. The company operates all parts of the electricity value chain: generation, transmission, distribution and sales. Vattenfall also conducts energy trading and lignite mining, and produces, distributes and sells heat. In 2008, Vattenfall already had operations in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Poland and the UK. Vattenfall acquired Nuon for €8.5bn in early 2009. It will initially take a controlling 49% stake in Nuon, and will build up its position to full ownership over the next six years. Thus, the Group also conducts operations in Belgium and the Netherlands as from 2009. As a part of its strategy, Vattenfall aims at making its operations climate-neutral by 2050.
