Highlights on Union Fenosa
Union Fenosa Group is mainly active in the generation, distribution and commercialisation of power and gas in Spain, Latin America and Africa, with a presence in 13 countries. The company's other businesses include exploration, production and refining of crude oil, transport and sale of petroleum derivatives, preparation of chemical products, operations of a coal mine, non-electricity-related real estate business and technological solutions services.
In 2008, Gas Natural purchased ACS's 45.3% stake in Union Fenosa for €17bn and launched a takeover bid for the remaining shares of the company. At the closure of the offer, Gas Natural holds 95.2% of Union Fenosa. The acquisition has been approved by the competition regulator, provided Gas Natural sells 2,000 MW of capacity and 600,000 gas points of supply. The Gibraltar 1 and 2 power plants (owned by Union Fenosa and Cepsa) will be sold.
Figures here correspond to Union Fenosa's activities until 2008. As of 2009, the company has been included in Gas Natural.
