Highlights on Statkraft
Statkraft is Norway's leading energy group and the third largest electricity generator in the Nordic region. The company was converted into a limited company 'Statkraft AS' at end-2004. All its shares are owned by the Norwegian State. The company is the Europe's largest power producer from renewables. Generating assets are mainly hydro power, wind power, solar energy and gas-fired capacities located in the Nordic region and Europe. Notably, the Group has had a presence in Sweden since 1996 and is now one of the country's largest power generators. The Group also carries out activities in Germany, where it commissioned two new gas-fired power plants in 2008. At end-2008, Statkraft sold its 44.6% in E.ON Sverige to E.ON AG and in return received a total installed capacity of 2,430 MW and a 4.2% participation in E.ON AG. The Group recently acquired hydropower projects in Turkey (Yesil Enerji) and expressed its interest in operating dams with concessions which will be put to tender in France in 2010. Statkraft also has district heating activities.
