Highlights on GDF

In 2008, GDF has completed its merger with the SUEZ Group into a new company named GDF SUEZ. The former GDF's activities in France and abroad were incorporated in the new energy group. From 2008, operations in France are included in the "Energy France" business unit of the Group, while the other activities are split between the GDF SUEZ's different business units.

Gaz de France (GDF) was the historical gas utility in France. Until 2005, it was fully-owned by the French State and it then opened its capital in June 2005.

GDF was the leading natural gas provider in France. It also ranked among the main natural gas providers in Europe, and had a diversified portfolio of suppliers. Gaz de France also operated the longest high pressure transport network in Europe, as well as the longest European distribution network. GDF owned participations in several companies in Hungary (TEGAZ 100% subsidiary), Belgium (Distrigaz), Germany (Gasab, EVO, Megal GmbH), the United Kingdom (Supply and Solution), Italy (Arcalgas, Italcogim), Spain (AES Energia Cartagena) and Slovakia. GDF also had a presence in Russia (Services).
Outside Europe, it operated exploration-production activities in Africa and transmission-distribution in Mexico as well as storage business in Canada.
