Highlights on Gas Natural

The Gas Natural Group is the historical gas group in Spain, which became a leading energy services multinational, active in natural gas supply, distribution and commercialisation, as well as in power generation and commercialisation.

In 2008, Gas Natural acquired a 45.3% stake in Union Fenosa from ACS (9.9% purchased in August 2008 from UBS and Caixanova) and submitted a takeover bid for the remaining shares. In April 2009, Gas Natural held 95.2% of the capital of Union Fenosa.
This €16.7bn acquisition was approved by the regulator CNC. In turn, the Group had to sell gas supply points and about 2,000 MW of installed capacity. Gas Natural also had to reduce its links with Cepsa and sell its 5% stake in Enagas, which was completed in June 2009 (sold to Oman Oil). During its General Shareholders' Meeting in April 2010, the Group presented its new brand name Gas Natural Fenosa resulting from the merger process between Gas Natural and Union Fenosa.

With the integration of Union Fenosa businesses, the Group counts more than 21 million clients and diversified its activities to coal production (South Africa) and power distribution (Spain, Moldova, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Colombia and Panama). The generation portfolio increased from Spain, Puerto Rico and Mexico to Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Kenya (plus projects in Romania).
