Highlights on Galp Energia
Galp Energia was created in 2000 by the Government in order to group together its stakes in the country's oil (Petrogal) and gas companies (Gas of Portugal and Transgas). The Group is present throughout the whole oil and gas value chain and develops E&P activities in Angola and Brazil (with exploration projects in Venezuela, Mozambique, Portugal and East Timor).
About 80% of Galp Energia's activity takes place in Portugal. It distributes and markets both natural gas and oil products through its own distribution network. The Group is developing power generation activities in Portugal, with an installed capacity of 160 MW (4 gas-fired cogeneration units), to be increased by more than 1 GW by 2013. In December 2009, Galp Energia and Morgan Stanley acquired part of the gas distribution and supply activities around Madrid (Spain) from Gas Natural for €800m (about 504,000 gas distribution customers and 412,000 supply customers with an annual consumption of about 0.4 bcm).
