Highlights on Fortum
Fortum is a leading power and heat company. It has activities in the Nordic countries, Russia, Poland and in the Baltic Region. In the Nordic market, Fortum is the second largest power generator and heat supplier, and the largest electricity distribution company. The Group aims to focus its activities on core business and geographical areas but also on reinforcing its leading position in the power sector in western Siberia and Urals (Russia). During recent years, Fortum divested from power and heat activities in Hungary, Germany, the UK and Thailand and from transmission engineering. In 2009, the Group entered into the Polish electricity marketplace. The Group is preparing for the commissioning of its new combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Czestochowa in 2010. Currently, Fortum owns some 50 heat plants in the country and has district heating networks.
