Highlights on Enel
Enel is the historical power utility in Italy. Enel Group is an European utility operating principally in Italy, Europe, America and Russia through 9 business units, which can be grouped in 5 main activities/geographical areas: Italy (4 business units), International (mainly Slovakia, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria and France), Iberian Peninsula and Latin America (i.e. mainly Endesa business), Renewable Energy and Services. In 1999 Enel was privatised and listed on the stock market. By the end of 2002, the downsizing of Enel (decided by the government as part of the liberalisation of Italy's electricity market) was essentially completed. In October 2007 Enel took control of Endesa, following a takeover bid launched with Acciona. Enel totally controls Endesa since February 2009, with a share of more than 92%. In December 2008, Enel created Enel Green Power, its daughter company dedicated to renewable energies, gathering all the renewable activities of the group in Italy and abroad (except large hydroelectric power).
