Highlights on Endesa
Endesa is a leading Spanish utility which has been controlled by Enel since 2007. Its activities are mainly focused on power generation, power and gas transportation & distribution and trading in Spain, Portugal, and South America through the market unit Endesa Latin America. It also owns assets in Greece, Ireland and Morocco, which were operated until 2009 through the market unit Endesa Europe (included in Endesa Iberia in 2009). Endesa has no renewable division; renewable capacities operated in the Iberian Peninsula by the fully-owned subsidiary ECyR will be merged into Enel Green Power activities in Iberia in 2010 (40% Endesa, 60% Enel).
Following a public offer for Endesa in 2007, Enel and Acciona took control of 92% of Endesa in September 2007 (of which 67% was for Enel). In February 2009, Enel purchased Acciona's stake and now controls 92% of Endesa alone. E.ON purchased Endesa Europe's activities in Italy, France, Poland and Turkey for €7.13bn and acquired two power stations in Spain (Los Barrios and Tarragona).
