Highlights on Electrabel

In July 2008, the merger between GDF and the SUEZ Group was completed. Electrabel's activities were integrated into the new energy Group named GDF SUEZ. GDF SUEZ's operations in Benelux and Germany were transferred to a new dedicated division ("Energy Benelux - Allemagne") in the scope of the "Energy Europe & International" business unit. As a result, operational data related to Electrabel are presented in GDF SUEZ from 2008. Selected 2008 figures for the Benelux area only were issued by the company. At end-2009, Electrabel issued its 2008 Annual Report named "The story behind the figures", which aims to describe the company's activities within the GDF SUEZ Group and to give core figures in Belgium. Production capacity figures reflect the company's situation mid-2009 (following the swap of generation assets with E.ON).

Electrabel is the Belgian historical power utility. Before integration within the GDF SUEZ Group, the company was a leading European energy company and ranked number one in Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg). The company also operated in Central and Western Europe (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Poland and Hungary) in the power and gas sectors. Electrabel operated in almost all parts of the value chain except in power transmission and gas production and transmission. In 2007, Electrabel finally became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SUEZ and was withdrawn from the Euronext Brussels stock exchange. Electrabel and SUEZ approved the acquisition by Electrabel of SUEZ's shares in SUEZ-TRACTEBEL (99.97%).
