Highlights on Edison

Edison is one of Italy's top energy companies, with operations in the procurement, production, distribution and sale of power and natural gas. Taking into account its 50% interest in Edipower, the Edison Group has an installed capacity of 12.3 GW and produces about 15% of the Italian's net power production (2009). In 2009, the Group sold 60.4 TWh of power in Italy. Through direct and indirect interests, EDF owns a 50% shareholding in Edison.

Regarding natural gas, Edison supplies about 17% of the total needs in Italy (2009). Edison holds about 56.1 bcm equivalents of hydrocarbon reserves and is engaged in the exploration & production of natural gas and crude oil. In 2009, the Group increased its reserves by 20.6 bcm through the acquisition of the Abu Qir concession (Egypt). Edison is also involved in the development of gas infrastructures, mainly to increase import capacity between Italy and Greece (ITGI gas pipeline) and from Algeria (Galsi gas pipeline). Edison primarly operates an LNG terminal in Porto Levante (Adriatic LNG) and plans to build a second one in Livorno. Through its fully-owned subsidiary, Edison Stoccaggio, the company operates two gas storages and is planning to build a third one.

Edison currently carries out its activities in Europe, through the creation of a joint venture in Greece, ElpEdison (completed in October 2009), and is considering the acquisition of about 700 MW in generation capacities in Turkey by 2014. The consolidation of its power activities in Greece contributed to the increase in its generation capacity in 2009.
