Highlights on EDF
EDF is the historical electricity utility in France. The company was state-owned until it opened its capital in November 2005. EDF is widely established in Europe, in particular in the United Kingdom with EDF Energy, in Germany (through a 45% share in EnBW, the fourth German Group) and in Italy (through a 50% interest in Edison, the second Italian Group). EDF also operates in Benelux and Central Europe (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic). In 2009, EDF has acquired Centrica's 51% stake in Belgian generation and supply operator SPE for €1.3bn. EDF had assets outside Europe that it has been selling gradually (Argentina in 2005, Brazil in 2006, Egypt in 2006, Mexico in 2007). EDF aims at reinforcing its international presence as an investor and operator in the nuclear generation. The Group defined the main geographic areas to enter in: the UK, China, the USA, South Africa and Italy.
