DONG Energy was created in 2006 from the merger of six energy companies: the oil and gas historical company DONG, EnergiE2, Elsam, Nesa, Copenhagen Energy and Frederiksberg Forsyning. DONG Energy aims to triple its renewable capacities by 2020 (up to 3 GW) and to strengthen its presence in the United Kingdom and in the Netherlands, where it acquired stakes in gas-fired power plants in 2008.
